An Eternal Mess
It's Christmas break, and upon his mom's requests, Ben begrudgingly attends the neighborhood holiday party. Freshly sober, and struggling to get out of bed most days, Ben want's nothing less than to go see his old classmates, and their insufferable parents. Austin, Ben's childhood best-friend is at the party, and is now nearly unrecognizable. The two drifted apart in high school, after Austin was involved in a tragic accident and Ben grappled with addiction and depression. The two decide to ditch the party and go for a drive, like they used to do as teenagers. An Eternal Mess, follows two friends, now turned strangers as they try to navigate themes of grief, addiction, mental health and healing.
I started this short story over a year ago and kept putting off doing anything else besides letting it sit as a draft. One day I decided to go back and edit/revise some short stories I had and decided to finish this one. I had no intention of publishing this, and although it will just be a self-publishing, it is a goal of mine nonetheless. After some feedback from my friends, and suggestions to look into publishing, I took the steps to do so. It still needs some editing and final touches, but it seems that it is about 90% done. If you would like to read my story, I would very much appreciate it!
Thank you!
